Spirit Guardian 4
Spirit Guardian 4, Cloud made for the Shot Glass Show @pieceofmindoc !
This shot glass is a special one for me. I came up with the design in 2018 and received the People’s Choice Award which led to my submission being published in “The American Shot Glass and the Machine” along with some of the most recognized glass artists in our industry. This was a big moment for me as I had not received much recognition for my work yet being a newer artist. At the time I was entering my third year of glassblowing and just starting to figure out my voice with etching. By combining flameworking and coldworking techniques to bring my sculpture to life I had figured out a focus for my future creations.
While I’ve played with a variety of carved sculptures, I had not made another Spirit Guardian since the one I received an award for. I figured revisiting the design would be a perfect way to see how my skills had developed over the course of five years. This project developed into a sort of landmark for me, and I poured over 40 hours into the carving alone. When I look at this shot glass, I feel a sense of gratification reflecting on the progress I’ve made with my sculpture and linework over the years.
