Temple Stylie

Collaboration with @hoobglass

Big summoner energy with my man Adam on this piece inspired by his trip to Angkor Wat. Back in July '21, I was kicking it at Hoobs' studio mulling over some ideas for our next piece. My eyes wandered to a sketch Adam picked up from a Cambodian local. As we talked about his visit, I began to feel a resonance with the architecture of the Bodhisattvas.

The more I thought about it, the more Adams's frame + panel flow and my sculptural stylie seemed like a perfect pairing to conjure up a glass structure influenced by the anthropomorphic design elements of Angkor Wat. I sourced inspiration from the artist's depiction of the temple's folded arms and crouching legs as I went about creating a form for the body panel to match the the faces I sculpt.

The energy coming off this one is pretty hefty, and I'm continuously inspired by the ridiculous builds Hoobs gets down on. As an engraving artist it's easy to get caught up in carving other artist's finished work, so I'm grateful for the opportunity to pool powers on the flameworking and come up with a meaningful narrative on a piece informed by Adam and I's mutual interests.
